Elton

It was the Friday of Memorial Day weekend 2012. All freeways were jammed packed with happy families eager to get out of town, going away for the Holidays. This was an exciting day for most people; a day of laughter, fun, excitement and joy... except for a little black and white male Pomeranian at the Moreno Valley Shelter.

A very sick, 5-lb 8 year old Pomeranian was scheduled to receive the death needle at 4:00 pm this day. Pleas of mercy were ringing in to the Moreno Valley shelter, with no one available to pickup on the other end.

A Pomeranian lover and dear friend, Rhonda M Baiz, canceled all of her holiday plans, jumped in the car and flew towards the shelter. Would Rhonda make it in time? It was unknown as time was of the essence. The mass of Facebook followers for this small dog were praying, begging, wishing, and hoping that Rhonda would make it in time to beat the needle of death.

With just 10 minutes to spare, Rhonda squealed in to the Moreno Valley Shelter's parking lot and ran inside to save the pup. I was on the phone with the shelter just minutes before Rhonda's arrival begging for mercy and a few more minutes so that Rhonda could make it in time.

The second Rhonda pulled into the parking lot, her radio was playing Elton John's song "Someone Saved My Life Today", thus, this dog was named Elton.

Rhonda saved Elton within the 10 minute window of the death needle and rushed him to a hospital because all odds were against sick little Elton. Rhonda made it her mission to provide anything and everything this dog would need to survive.

Donations poured in from Facebook fans along with gifts and well wishes for Elton. I also emptied my wallet to help. Two weeks later, the hospital cleared Elton for adoption, even though he was still extremely underweight.

I went to visit Elton in the hospital and fell in love within minutes. I had no intentions of adopting another dog but love makes us do crazy things. I'm now the proud mamma of Elton and will always have deep gratitude to Rhonda and the Facebook village that saved his life.

Pomeranian Saved Family from Burning House

Pomeranian is Credited with Saving Family from Burning House

OZARK, Mo. --A family of five is thankful to be alive after a fire tore through their home on Monday. They credit their lives to the family pet, a ten-inch, five-pound Pomeranian.

"Oh, she's very important, very important. Dog hero," said Joseph Onescu, who lived in the house with his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and 4-year-old grandson Alex.

Onescu said everyone was fast asleep on Monday morning when the fire started --everyone, that is, except Pearl, the family's dog. The normally quiet dog started barking around 3 a.m. Onescu said the dog was louder than they had ever heard before and would not stop until everyone was awake.

"My dog was in her little house here by the door, and she started barking, barking, and I didn't know what was wrong. She don't usually bark during the night," Onescu said.

Firefighters believe the blaze started in the attic. Even though the dog was in the basement, it was still able to warn the entire family. Firefighters said the family made it downstairs and out of the house just minutes before the upper levels disintegrated.

"I can't believe it, but I believe it now. She saved us," Onescu said.

Onescu rescued the little dog from an abandoned apartment 12 years ago.

"We saved her, and she saved us all now," Onescue said.
